Mel Y. Chen is Assistant Professor of Gender and Women’s Studies at UC Berkeley and an affiliate of the Center for Race & Gender and the Institute for Cognitive & Behavioral Sciences.

Chen’s research interests include queer and feminist theory, critical linguistics, contagion and contamination, critical animal studies, and the cultural politics of race, sexuality, ability, and immigration. Chen’s current book project, Animacies, focuses on the topics of animality, sexuality, and race.
